Shipmaster
From Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Shipmaster (or Shipmistress)[4] is a title bestowed upon an individual who commands a voidship.[1]
For example, a Chapter Serf can command a Space Marine Chapter's vessel. Although these indentured serfs are technically serving as Captains of the vessel, they are not referred to as a Captain (in order to avoid confusion with the similarly-named Space Marine rank).[1] Some mortal shipmasters are more reliable than the Space Marines they serve. Chaos Space Marine warbands do much the same with their mortal slaves.[3b]
The rank is also used by other Imperial organisations, including the Collegia Titanica,[2]Adeptus Mechanicus,[3a] and Rogue Traders.[4]
