Sinophia is a Frontier World in the Calixis Sector.[1]

History

Founded in elder days as the personal fief of the Rogue Trader Teresa Sinos at the end of her journeys, it is ruled by an Oligarchical Quorum of Noble Families and its Planetary Governor: the Judiciary.[3a]

They initiated the siege of the nearby world of Valon Urr as part of the War of Hubris. They were defeated and forced to lift the siege in 467.M39.[2]

The world has been afflicted by Tech-Heresy, its numerous Cult Mechanicus shrines bolting their doors. Sinophia’s PDF are sub-par and no tithing occurs. It bestrides the Calixis-Scarus Warp conduit. Imperial fleets destined for Kulth and the contested worlds of the Severan Dominate stage at Sinophia with increasing frequency.[5]

Geography

Temperate but unstable climate. Extensive fertile wetlands and plains formerly cultivated have fallen to wilderness, lawlessness and widespread disuse. Sinophia’s southern continents are currently evidencing extensive volcanism and seismic activity, leading to a planetwide increase in precipitation over the last several centuries.[3a]

Demography

Sinophia Magna and Environs[3b]

Remaining habitation is centred on northern continent in the capital Sinophia Magna which contains its only starport. Lesser Hive Karib contains an industrial zone. Hive Argopolis is abandoned. Criminality and corruption are utterly ingrained, and what little off-world contact it has is with smugglers, independent cartels (themselves skirting the fringes of the law), and a few hardy pilgrims. Whole cities lay deserted, and where Imperial civilization does exist, it does so in twilight, clinging desperately to the faded glories of the past amidst the crumbling decay of the present.[3a]

Economy

Initially a launching site for Rogue Trader excursions prior to the Angevin Crusade, Sinophia has recently fallen into an economic depression which is slowly leading to its complete depopulation.[1] Legitimate off-world trade with Sinophia is limited. There is a long-standing boycott of the world by the Calixis Chartist Captains due to the leading nobles' efforts to fight their economic decline.[3a]

Thanks in part to its dwindling population, Sinophia is largely self-sufficient in terms of food and industry, particularly in scavenging resources of its former sizable infrastructure. The heavy tax burden imposed on the population by the local government has led to rampant criminality and corruption, further undermining civil and economic stability.[3a]
