The Solar Cults are Drukhari cults that were formed by the ancient Eldar of Port Commoragh and similar labyrinth dimensions in the Webway[1] which worshiped the city's stolen stars.[2]

History

The cults formed in a time when the Eldar began practicing self-indulgence with many of these individuals forming their own shadow society within the Webway. Their sovereign estates and sub-realms were lighted by the power of stolen suns that began in the years c. M18-M20.[1] The cults' choice to devote worship to the Ilmaea disgusted many Commorrites, who saw it worse than deviancy to exalt that which the Dark Eldar had already conquered.[2]

By c. M33, after the Fall of the Eldar, the Dark Eldar formed their own separate society based at the Dark City. The Solar Cults which controlled the stolen suns rose in power and influence to the point they declared war on the noble houses. This saw them plunge Commoragh into permanent night with aerial conflicts erupting between the two sides that lasted for centuries. Ultimately, the noble houses won this war and the Solar Cults[1] were winnowed from a powerful political force to a handful of relics.[2]

Despite their absence, fragments of their culture remain in the fabric of Drukhari society, most notable of which is the practice of transforming oneself into a Scourge – a practice which originated from solar cultists' desires to fly ever closer to the lights of their worship. Those who lead the Scourges are to this day known as Solarites, the same name as the cult priests of old.[2]
