Somrot is a Feudal World in the Sulmar System. Once a modest and undeveloped planet of widely varying biomes, its society was radically transformed a century ago after a brutal invasion by the Khrave and the crash-landing of the Adeptus Mechanicus Explorator vessel Filia Fulmen.[1]

History

Somrot was lightly tithed by the Imperium, visited only once every twenty years due to its lack of industry or advanced infrastructure. Its scattered populations lived in feudal polities across varied biomes, providing little of value beyond agricultural produce and raw materials.[1]

This isolation left Somrot helpless when the Khrave descended a century ago. The xenos wrought devastation across the planet, consuming populations wholesale. No Imperial fleet would have reached Somrot in time were it not for a chance event in the Immaterium. The Filia Fulmen, a Mechanicus Explorator vessel, was cast out of the Warp by accident and crash-landed on the planet’s surface.[1]

The survivors included several Tech-Priests and Skitarii, led by the unconventional Artisan Magos known as the Callulus the Enumerator. The desperate Somroti Highborn swiftly pledged themselves to Callulus in exchange for protection from the Khrave.[1]

Callulus was a highly unorthodox figure, deemed later by the Mechanicus to be dangerously close to heretek. Working with limited supplies salvaged from the wreck of the Filia Fulmen, he fashioned hybrid weapons and soldiers using the bodies of broken Skitarii and the raw strength of Somrot’s people.[1]

The resulting troops were unlike anything seen elsewhere in the Imperium:

  • Knights – Wielding massive powered claymores, reinforced with augmetic limbs.
  • Cavalry Scouts – Equipped with reclaimed Skitarii gear, combat harnesses, and crude augmentations.
  • Explosive Spearmen – Troopers adapted with explosive spear-flingers capable of piercing tank armour.

These hybridised warriors turned the tide. The Khrave were driven back after ferocious losses, though at terrible cost to Somrot’s population. Callulus became both saviour and ruler, forging a new feudal order centred upon Mechanicus dominance.[1]

Within the wider Mechanicus, Callulus was accused of blasphemy for his deviation from orthodoxy, particularly in his use of “adaptive STC patterns” and crude human-augmetic hybrids. Many denounced him as a heretek. Yet others praised his achievements, noting that he had transformed a worthless world into a productive vassal of the Omnissiah.[1]

For a century, Somrot has been locked in a cycle of war with lingering Khrave incursions. The Enumerator’s ad-hoc forge-city, built from the wreck of the Filia Fulmen, has expanded into a functioning hub of industry, allowing even the ignorant Somroti to wield advanced arms.[1]

Notable Figures

  • Callulus the EnumeratorArtisan Magos, saviour of Somrot, and ruler of its reconstructed society. Viewed alternately as a genius and a heretek, Callulus maintains widespread support among Somrot’s Highborn despite constant controversy.[1]
  • Tech-Priest Manipulus XVI-Cortus – Callulus’ closest ally and harshest critic. Cortus condemns the Enumerator’s heresies but nevertheless works with him, salvaging the Filia Fulmen and constructing shrines to the Machine God. He views the Enumerator’s hybrid armies as necessary evils to preserve Imperial control.[1]
  • Highborn Lohot Brandelis – A noble of Somrot opposed to Callulus’ regime, Brandelis leads growing resistance against the Mechanicus. A powerful psyker, they have successfully repelled Khrave attacks with arcs of blue flame, inspiring many Somroti to resist augmentation and reject the Enumerator’s order.[1]

Factions

Somrot today is effectively ruled by the Enumerator and his surviving Explorator cohort.

  • Adeptus Mechanicus – Callulus’ forge-city wields salvaged technology and limited industry, producing unique hybridised troops. The Enumerator enjoys the loyalty of most Highborn, though not without dissent.[1]
  • Administratum – Surprised by Somrot’s unexpected productivity, the Administratum has increased its tithe and placed scriveners in the forge-city. Though superstitious of Callulus’ methods, they welcome the expanded output.[1]
  • Somroti Nobility – Divided between loyalists who support augmentation and rebels who follow Brandelis. The latter remain a persistent internal threat.[1]
