Normally the weapons batteries would be used to collapse the shields of an enemy ship, before the lances rip into the ship directly. Also, it is the only battleship armed with a Nova Cannon. This extremely long range weapon is able to obliterate whole squadrons of escorts in a single shot. The Apocalypse uses the Nova Cannon when closing in on the enemy.<sup>1</sup>
The Apocalypse class is an old design believed to have lead to the development of the Retribution class battleship. The multiple lance turrets on the Apocalypse, are no longer produced by the Mechanicum as the Technology has been lost. Therefore they are extremely valuable ships and will always be well protected. The Class has a significant Lance armament, these arrays can rapidly drain the Energy reserves of the Battleship and divert energy from the Engines leaving her Vulnerable. The solution is not to deplete the energy by firing at extreme or long range despite the capability to do so. Limiting the Lance Batteries to medium and close range reduces the energy drain and counters this significant vulnerability.
