This lasting legacy allowed the Orks to retain their high level of technology in later years by way of artificial strands of DNA which contains knowledge imprinted in their metabolism that allowed the Orks to live following the demise of their masters. <sup>1 p7p50-51</sup>
A great tragedy must have befallen them, however, for they do not exist today. Some Ork legends tell of a great plague that lasted for many centuries, causing the brainboyz to dwindle and eventually die out altogether. <sup>1 2 p7</sup>
