Detailed Information
Terra is the homeworld of human race. It was where the first human empires appeared and it is the most holy and revered place in the galaxy. There is a fear toward Space Marines among the people who live there, due to ancient fears dating back to the Horus Heresy, when much of the planet was leveled by the Traitor Legions. It is home to many important segments of the Imperium, and even the earth soil that is pilgrims tread upon is considered holy. It is effectively a temple the size of a planet. The planet is heavily polluted, many of the oceans have dissappeared and cities sprawl across most of the surface.
===Geography===The planet is heavily polluted, and cities sprawl across most of the surface. Only small seas of rust and toxic sludge remain of the oceans. The only way to tell the ancient oceans existed is due to the more built-up cities were placed among coastlines. Many mountain ranges have been leveled, perhaps all but the Himalayas, due to the laboratories said to be underneath and the Astronomican that lays within them. Hundreds of layers of building lay beneath the current ones, in which people still live. These catacombs hold an entire culture that is extremely different then the surface one. A poor civiliation lives and dies, without ever seeing the surface. A square meter of land on Terra costs more then a palace on any Hive World, and as such, only the most wealty can even afford to own a small section of land.1(A comparison could be made as a Hive City streatching across a planet) ===Old Earth===The Age of Old Earth is known as the time from the dawn of mankind to the founding of the Imperium. Cities such as Atlantys(Atlantis) and Nova Yourk (New York) are cited as being the most legendary and ancient cities of Old Earth. Nations known as Jermani(Germany), Merica(America?) and Bania (?) have said to have prospered and wilted during this time.1 ==Loactions==Holy Terra is the heart of the Imperium, containing so many of the important offices of power, that if it were to disappear, the entire Imperium would collapse in a matter of months. It is said that if every bit of information coming into Terra in a day were to enter at once, the cogitators would explode. Also, it contains the mostly dead remains of the Emperor of Mankind. The most important places and organisations based on Terra are:
*Eternity Gate - The largest entry to the Imperial Palace. There is a mile long passage leading to the Eternity Gate, lined with the banners of thousands of long dead Imperial heroes, including Lord Commander Solar Macharius. It is an important pilgrimage spot.
*Astronomican - Believed to lie in the Himalayas, ten thousand psykers blast out the Astronomican beacon for thousands of lightyears in all directions (a sphere with a diameter of roughly 75,000 light years, centred around the Earth is lit up by this psychic beacon in the warp). The astronomican is used by the mutant psykers known as navigators when navigating through the immaterium. Without it long distance warp jumps would be impossible and the imperium would disintegrate in to its component parts.
*Navis Nobilite - The headquarters of the the navigators guild. It is said to be on a massive island. (Austrailia?)
*Adeptus Terra - The Adeptus Terra, also known as the Priesthood of Earth, is the central organisation of the Imperium, to which most of the Imperium's other departments and organisations belong. Only the Ecclesiarchy and the Inquisition are not formally a part of the Adeptus Terra. The Adeptus Terra is an umbrella organisation, and not really an organisation in itself, as each of its divisions functions largely autonomously. The most powerful individual in the Adeptus Terra (and if not in theory, then in practice, the entire Imperium) is the Master of the Administratum.
*Adeptus Astra Telepathica - The Adeptus Astra Telepathica is the organisation responsible for recruiting and training psykers for service to the Imperium. The famous Black Ships of the Adeptus Inquisition travel throughout the Imperium, gathering promising young psykers and returning them to Earth, where they are analysed and trained at the Scholastia Psykana for five years before being sent for further training elsewhere. Most become Astropaths, specialist psykers who are trained to send and receive messages over interstellar distances (no other form of fast interstellar communication exists). Others are requisitioned by the Adeptus Astronomica for service in the Astronomican choir. Some are sent to join space marineSpace Marine Chapter chapters s as librariansLibrarians or to the Inquisition for training as inquisitors. Those psykers deemed too weak or dangerous are "fed" in to the arcane technology of the golden throne so that the emperor Emperor may continue to live. Only psykers that have been trained at the Scholastia Psykana are sanctioned by the Imperium, with the exception of navigators, who are trained by their own families.
*Scholastia Psykana - The school of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica.
*Ecclesiarchy - The centre of Imperial Cult (also known as the Ministorum of Earth), which teaches and upholds the imperial creed. Also home to the Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle).
*Ecclesiarchal palacePalace - The headquarters of the Ecclessiarchy, the Ecclesiarchal palace sprawls over almost the entirety of the Antarctic continent. *The Supreme Council of the High Lords of Terra - The twelve highest ranking officials in the Imperium, who rule in the Emperor's name.
