At one point in the [[Sabbat Worlds Crusade]], Hagia was attacked and conquered by an army of [[Chaos]], chiefly the [[Infardi]], led by their master [[Pater (Chaos)|Pater]] [[Sin]].{{Fn|1a}} Although the [[Imperial]] response force led by [[Lord General]] [[Lugo]] was able to drive the Infardi out of the planet's major settlements, they triggered a [[psychic]] beacon that called enemy reinforcements to Hagia. Lugo was left no choice but to order the evacuation of all Imperial forces from Hagia, part of which involved detailing an honour guard led by [[Colonel-Commissar]] [[Ibram Gaunt]] of the [[Tanith First and Only]] to journey to the [[Shrinehold of Saint Sabbat]], the Saint's resting place, to recover her remains.{{Fn|1b}}
During the mission, the honour guard's advance scouts encountered Zweil as they were performing a sweep of the town of [[Mukret]]. Although the town had been abandoned, Zweil had journeyed there to attempt to repair the local shrine.{{Fn|1c}} When the rest of the honour guard arrived in Mukret, [[Imperial Guard Scout|Scout]]-[[Sergeant (Imperial Guard)|Sergeant]] [[Oan Mkoll|Mkoll]] introduced Zweil to Gaunt.{{Fn|1d}} Zweil agreed to accompany the Guardat Gaunt's invitation, believing them pilgrims, of a sort, and seeing it as his duty to aid pilgrims where he was needed.{{Fn|1e}}
