[[Image:UMDestroyer.jpg|thumb|right|220px|[[Nemesis Destroyer ]] during the [[Great Crusade]]{{Fn|4d}}]]During the [[Great Crusade]] and [[Horus Heresy]], the 22nd [[Chapter]] of the [[Ultramarines]] [[Legion]] was known as the '''Nemesis Chapter''', specialising in [[Exterminatus]] operations.{{Fn|4c}} The 22nd was a patchwork of specialised units, most notably maintaining [[Nemesis Destroyer|two full companies ]] of the [[Destroyer Marine|Destroyer squads]] rarely found in the other Chapters, and had a large [[Terra]]n contingent - this resulted in a culture which [[Roboute Guilliman|Guilliman]] considered too far removed from the rest of the Legion.{{Fn|5b}}
The Chapter earned their name during the purgation of [[abhuman]] [[Pirate|corsairs]] in the [[Cancerai Nebula]] alongside the [[Night Lords|VIII Legion]]. As well as the name "Nemesis", they took to wearing black gauntlets, midnight blue helms and adopted the weighing scales and death's head icon of judgement.{{Fn|4c}}
Guilliman viewed the Destroyers as an unpleasant necessity, keeping them off the front lines where possible and expressing an intent to restructure the dedicated Destroyer companies of the Nemesis.{{Fn|5a}} During the campaign against the [[ork]]s of the [[Thoas|Thoas Empire]], he kept the Destroyer companies in the void, hunting the orks on the barren moon of [[Agrigentum V]]. In the wake of [[Praetor (Rank)|Chapter Master]] [[Machon Phalaris|Phalaris's]] death, Guilliman appointed [[Eleon Iasus]], [[Space Marine Captain|Captain]] of the [[166th Company (Ultramarines Legion)|166th Company]], as his replacement as part of an effort to integrate Nemesis into the wider culture of the Legion.{{Fn|5b}} The Destroyer companies were eventually deployed from reserve in the final stages of the [[Battle of Thoas]].{{Fn|5c}}
