He rose from relative obscurity after receiving a vision of the [[Emperor]], that called upon Gramatticus to purge the [[Galaxy]] of [[Xenos]]. Since then, the [[Marshal (Black Templars)|Marshal]] has come to view the [[T'au Empire]] as the greatest Xenos threat to the [[Imperium]] and he leapt at the chance to fight them{{Fn|1}} in the [[Dark Crusade (Imperium)|Dark Crusade]]'s {{Fn|1}} [[Mont'shi Campaign]]. Though the Campaign ultimately failed to defeat the T'au and caused the Imperium a great number of losses,{{Fn|2}} Grammatticus survived the conflict.{{Fn|1}}
