In early [[M42]], the [[Octarius War]] threatened to spill out of the [[Octarius]] warzone and breach the [[Cordon Impenetra]]. The tyranids of [[Hive Fleet Leviathan]] swarmed through the Pankallis Sub-sector, overwhelming the worlds of the Gydisk System. They scoured Gydisk Quartas's caves of their [[megafunghi]] colonies.{{Fn|1a}}
Despite the efforts of Gydisk's Imperial defenders, the entire system was declared lost, although scattered Imperial resistance remained active across the region.{{Fn|1a}} The world's vast food stockpiles were evacuated or burned under the orders of the [[Death Strike]] [[Chapter]] to prevent the tyranids consuming them and to support Imperial efforts elsewhere in the sub-sector.{{Fn|1c}}
