The aircraft has two crew members, a pilot and a navigator/weapons operator. Their cockpit is also an escape pod, which can detach from the aircraft's fuselage and has limited gravitic mobility to bring the crew safely back to the ground.1c

While there have been attempts by the Adeptus Mechanicus to recover a damaged Tiger Shark, these have encountered fierce resistance not only from Tau forces but also from certain inquisitorial elements.8
Taros Campaign
After Taros the usage of AX-1-0s has spread to other war zones on the fringes of the Tau Empire. They are mostly used for special missions against specific hard targets like command and control bunkers, hardened weapon positions, missile silos and super-heavy vehicles.6b Skilled pilots have also been using the AX-1-0 in an anti-aircraft role, with it being capable of downing everything short of a Thunderhawk.7b
AX-2-2 Variant
The AX-2-2 varient variant is a Tiger Shark that has been modified to carry and deploy two Remora Drone Stealth Fighters. In addition to this the AX-2-2 compliments the fighters by sending them additional data. If the AX-2-2 is destroyed or disengages the fighters will slow down due to their limited artificial intelligence.2
