The War for the Tri-forge Cluster began, when the Thousand Sons invaded the Imperium-held Tri-forge Cluster in M42. The Death Guard would later invade the Cluster as well, on the orders of the Daemon Primarch Mortarion.1
History
When the Thousand Sons invaded, Psykers ran rampant throughout the Tri-forge Cluster and the Traitors began raising Chaos Cults. These Cults aided them in their battle to seize control of the Cluster from the Imperium, but soon the Death Guard invaded as well. This occurred after the Daemon Primarch Mortarion ordered the Death Guard to attack the Forge World Metalica and Vectoriums from the 2nd and 4th Plague Companies to seize the Tri-forge Cluster. When they discovered the Thousand Sons had already invaded the Cluster, the Death Guard relished the opportunity presented to them. This was their chance to demonstrate Nurgle's superiority to Tzeentch and the Death Guard began spreading plagues and raising Cults of their own. Both invading factions now believe the tri-lobe Cluster has numerical significance to their Chaos God and each thinks it is their right to claim the Cluster's nine worlds.1
As the war raged, Death Guard Vectoriums of the 2nd Plague Company have raced to secure the Cluster's tank component fabricator-shrines. In doing so, the Death Guard aim to to corrupt the shrines with the Ferric Blight disease. This has led the Carrion Brotherhood to invade Thrios, where they planted hundreds of Miasmic Malignifiers to convert auto-factorums, producing Leman Russ turrets, into biomechanical monstrosities. On Septios, the Sons of Glorious Decay battled the Auric Consuls, Black Pegasi and Nightshades Space Marine Chapters for weeks. All so the Sons could capture seven manufactorums, that produced tracks for Chimera-chassis vehicles.1
Meanwhile, many of the 4th Plague Company's Vectoriums fought the forces of Tzeentch for possession of the Cluster's large number of Psykers. On Oktos, the Missionaries of Putridity engaged in ferocious psychic battles with rogue Tzeentchian psykers throbbing with Warp energy. The Congregation of the Blessed Foul battles nearly destroyed the world Seixios, after they unleashed vast tides of sludge to quench city-sized Tzeentchian firestorms. The Disciples of Pustulence, though, made a staggering discovery of three hundred Predator tanks on Novios. This stockpile had accumulated after the the Tri-forge Cluster was awarded the honor to produce one Predator a year for the Chorus of Eltain Chapter. The Cluster had not been informed, however, that the Chapter had been destroyed in the Abyssal Crusade, which occurred in M37. Because of this, the Cluster had simply continued to produce the Chorus of Eltain's Predators without question. Their misktake mistake was the Death Guard's gain, though, and the Traitors began corrupting the Predators for their own use. They are unaware, however, that hundreds more of the completed Predators still lay undiscovered.1
