Before he became an Imperial Fist, Yonnad was amongst the hundreds of [[aspirant]]s that trained under the watchful eye of the [[Primarch]] [[Rogal Dorn]] after he was reunited with his Legion in 835.[[M30]]. During his training, Yonnad formed a friendship with fellow Aspirants '''Kye''' and '''Archamus''', but their friendship would soon be severed by the actions of Kye. During a combat exercise with [[Combat Servitor]]s, Archamus was killed after he followed a strategy created by Kye that went against what their superiors overseeing the exercise had told them to follow. Yonnad held Kye responsible for Archamus' death and their friendship ended, though they remained cordial with each other as they continued their training. Eventually, both were part of the first group of twenty Aspirants that successfully completed their training under Dorn's guidance, and Yonnad was there to witness Kye change his name to [[Archamus]], to honour their fallen friend, during the ceremony welcoming them into the Imperial Fists Legion.{{Fn|1a}}

When the [[Horus Heresy|Heresy]] began, Yonnad was given command of his Legion's [[Retribution Fleet]], which was sent by [[Rogal Dorn]] to confront [[Horus]] in the [[Isstvan System]]. However, after the Retribution Fleet entered the [[Warp]], it was hit by [[Warp Storm|severe storms]] that wreaked havoc upon it, causing numerous casualties and destroying many of the [[Imperial Fists]]' ships. When the Retribution Fleet finally exited the Warp in the [[Phall System]], it was discovered that Yonnad was among the many Imperial Fists that were killed by the storms. After the remnants of the Retribution Fleet were reformed, command of the remaining ships fell to Captain [[Alexis Polux]], who was Yonnad's current protégé and amongst the greatest of his pupils.{{Fn|2}}
