Despite signs of a struggle, it seemed the populace had vanished instantaneously, with activated [[Ordinators]] sitting idle and rotten, half-eaten rations lying around.{{Fn|2}}{{Fn|3}}
As the Imperial forces investigated further, Necrons appeared suddenly and simultaneously across the planet to attack them, beginning the battle for Vertigus II.{{Fn|3}}
