Disguising his true allegiance, Oct traveled to [[Battle of Bastior|War Zone Bastior]] and pledged himself to the [[Ultramarines]] in order to have access to the [[Necron]] technologies they were sure to acquire in the coming [[Ultramarian Reclamation]]. He was determined to find shards of the Dragon or perhaps other Star-Gods and reassemble them.{{Fn|1a}}
During the [[War for Novamagnor]], Oct secretly sabotaged the Imperial war effort and attempted to reawaken the Nightbringer. When his forge-shrine of Firstbrand fell to the Necrons under [[Nekrosor Ammentar]], Oct offered aid and supplication but was thrown to the [[Destroyer Lord]]s followers to be ripped apart.{{Fn|1b}}
