During the [[Horus Heresy]], the planet was assaulted by the [[Word Bearers]] as part of the [[Shadow Crusade]].{{Fn|4}} Thrown into unrest by the Shadow Crusade, Talassar [[Carrion Realms|was subsequently conquered]] by a [[Night Lords]] warband led by [[Mawdrym Llansahai]]. The Night Lords managed to convince parts of the local garrison to defect to their side,{{Fn|7a}} and they plundered the local [[Ultramarines]] [[gene-seed]] stockpiles to create [[Inductii]] to bolster their numbers.{{Fn|7b}} In 010.[[M31]], a [[Blood Angels]] and [[Solar Auxilia]] strike force raided Talassar to recover the remaining gene-seed; this operation succeeded and greatly weakened the Night Lords presence, but the loyalists withdrew.{{Fn|7a}}{{Fn|7c}} For months after the raid, Talassar fell into complete anarchy as various factions (including the surviving Night Lords) fought for control until the planet was later retaken by the Ultramarines.{{Fn|7c}}
After the Horus Heresy, in the period known as the [[Age of Rebirth]], the a great horde of [[Orks]] descended on the main continent of Talassar, [[Glaudor]], threatening to destroy cities there. Following the protocols of the newly approved ''[[Codex Astartes]]'', the [[Ultramarines]] made a series of rapid strikes and defeated the greenskins.{{Fn|6b}}{{Fn|8}}
The Ultramarines' [[2nd Company (Ultramarines)|Second CompanyCato Sicarius]] , former [[Space Marine Captain|Captain]], of the Ultramarines' [[Cato Sicarius2nd Company (Ultramarines)|Second Company]], and [[Master of the Watch]], was born to Talassari nobility, and was trained in the arts of war from a young age. His [[power sword]], the ''[[Talassarian Tempest Blade]]'', takes its name from his homeworld's frequent storms. Among Captain Sicarius is also, among his 's many honorific titles, is '''Grand Duke of Talassar'''.{{Fn|1}}
In 854999.[[M41]], the [[Daemon Prince]] [[M'kar]] personally led the onslaught against Talassar. [[Marneus Calgar]] brought the 1st Company of the [[Ultramarines]] to Talassar, determined to once again slay M'kar. After the great battle, Calgar was nearly defeated by M'kar but was saved by the arrival of the 2nd and 4th Companies of the Ultramarines, led by Captains Cato Sicarius and [[Uriel Ventris]], respectively. Ventris pronounced the mortal name of the Daemon Prince, and gave the [[Shard of Erebus]] to Calgar, who used it to stab M'kar in the throat. As a result, M'kar was destroyed once and for all.{{Fn|3c}}
Talassar is now the homeworld of the [[Void Tridents]], a [[Chapter|Space Marine Chapter]] created during the [[Ultima Founding]].{{Fn|5}}.
