There are many differences with the narrative of the Siege of Terra as originally told in older sources with that of the Black Library novel series. Most notably these include:
====New Additions====These are narrative additions by the Black Library novels, rather than direct changes/contradictions*The Iron Warriors evacuate midway into the siege.CME*Kharn the Betrayer is slain by Sigismund.CME*Mortarion is banished back to the Warp in a duel with Jaghatai Khan.CME*Dark Angels land at the Astronomican.CME*Magnus is defeated by Vulkan, and likewise Angron is defeated by Sanguinius.22f*The final battle between Horus and the Emperor is greatly expanded upon and includes figures such as Ollanius Persson, Garviel Loken, Leetu and the Athame which were not present in the original.CME====Changes from Previous====These are direct changes from previous information*Previously it was ambiguous as to who actually stands between Horus and the Emperor's broken body, with some stating it was a Custodian, Space Marine, or lone Guardsman Ollanius Pius. The Black Library novels reveal all three to have been true at different points.CME
*In the original lore, Lorgar himself led the Word Bearers on Terra.1a However as of the events of the novel Slaves to Darkness, Lorgar is banished from Horus' sight for attempting to usurp him and instead the Word Bearers at Terra were led by Zardu Layak.4
*The Sky Fortress was used for the defense of the Eternity Gate, not for the retaking of the Lion's Gate Spaceport by Jaghatai Khan.1d
*Magnus was not defeated by Vulkan, and likewise Angron Sanguinius was not defeated by Sanguinius.22f*Sanguinius is able to crack a small chink out of Horus' armour, which the Emperor later exploits. This is not present in the Black Library novels.CME*The final battle between Horus and the Emperor This is greatly expanded upon and includes figures such as Ollanius Persson, Garviel Loken, Leetu and the Athame which were not present in the original.CME*It is left ambiguous as to who actually stands between Horus and the Emperor's broken body, with some stating it was a Custodian, Space Marine, or lone Guardsman Ollanius Pius. The Black Library novels reveal all three to have been true at different points.CME
*The Emperor is insistent that he be brought back to the throne after defeating Horus, whereas in the novels he is unconscious and they discover a tarot guide of the throne to guide them to the conclusion.CME
