Despite his low status, he eventually was able to develop something close to a friendship with his master Talos, whom he served for most of his adult life.{{Fn|1}} Despite this bond, Septimus was nearly killed after the Night Lord learned of that his ongoing affair with and impregnation of the [[Navigator]] [[Octavia]]lead to her becoming pregnant.{{Fn|1a}} Shortly before his death on [[Tsagualsa]], Talos released Septimus from his servitude and he escaped along with Octavia and his unborn child.{{Fn|1b}}
