Being amongst the original [[Legion]] inductees during the [[Unification War]], the IIIrd was later devastated by a genetic blight caused by a [[Selenite]] plot that culled much of their numbers. By the time [[Fulgrim]] was rediscovered and reunited with his Legion, there were only 200 III Legion Astartes remaining. These last remaining warriors were later supplemented with Astartes drawn from [[Chemos]] but retained a degree of honour in the Emperor's Children due to their veteran status. However their genetic blight continued to eat away at some, such as [[Chief Apothecary]] [[Fabius]].{{Fn|1}}
