Though the Salamanders can fight in any theatre under any conditions, they have a special proclivity towards close combat through the use of [[Flame Weapon]]s and [[Melta Weapon]]s.{{Fn|58b}} In the time of the [[Great Crusade]], they also made great use of [[Volkite Weaponry]].{{Fn|61}} The individual technical aptitude of Salamanders, thanks to the Promethean Cult espoused by Vulkan, allows them to maintain complicated weapons and machinery in the field.{{Fn|61}}
The Salamanders are fond of deploying mass heavy armour alongside fire-wielding heavy infantry, making a methodical advance that annihilates the enemy with incendiaries and heavy firepower. Their skills also have proven able to translate into being extremely effective in defence and boarding actions.{{Fn|39}} In battle, the Salamanders are known to be incredibly patient and will wait until the enemy is in range of their flame weaponry before unleashing their fire.{{Fn|58b}}
