The Horus Heresy and the Schism of Mars
According to adept Semyon, formally of the Cult Mechanicum and now a guardian of the Dragon,
the Void Dragon came to earth sometime in the 12th Century in an extremely weakened form where
it lured women from a vast city in Libya to it's lair where it would consume them. The last women
to be consumed was the princess of a large city and as the procession was bringing her to the Dragon's lair, a great Knight in resplendant plate armour appeared and rode on toward the cave where he fought the weakened Void Dragon. A weak spot is exposed beneath it's wing and the warrior thrusts, subdueing it. In the battle, the warrior's helm torn off by the Dragon revealing his identity as the the Emperor of Mankind. The first machines were created from within the Dragon's mind and the Emperor was able to chain it beneath the surface of Mars. The Emperor forsaw that he his Imperium would wither and die, unless a sect of tech adepts were able to supply munitions and technology to the expanding faction. From the chaining of the Dragon and his creation of machinery and the myth of the Onmessiah, the Emperor was setting the scene for his arrival on Mars before the Great Crusade. The Knight and the Dragon can also explain the long standing myth of good vs evil.
*The Void Dragon was said to be the most powerful of the C'tan.
*The Void Dragon is described as having the bottom half of a beast, the top of a great bird" and it's skin is extremely black, hard and scaley like chainmail. It's tail was said to be twenty meters long.
* Mechanicum (Graham Mcneil)
In the interim time gained by the forging of the Iron Knights, the Eldar god of the Forge, Vaul, created the Talismans of Vaul, or Blackstone Fortresses as they are known to the Imperium. These too were powered by the souls of Eldar seers, and were used by Vaul to attack the Void Dragon. Here the legend provided by the Eldar ends, and there is little indication as to the outcome, other than the opinion of the Inquisitor, which was the attack had failed.1
