He was originally among the Greyshields that accompanied the Torchbearers Fleet that was sent to aid the Dragons Ardent. However when the Fleet reached the Chapter's Homeworld Nautilos, the Torchbearers discovered the Dragons Ardent had been destroyed. They had fallen at the hands of the World Eaters' Foresworn Warband and no survivors were found in the ruins of the Chapter's facilities. It was then decided to Refound the Dragons Ardent and Marhen was chosen to become the restored Chapter's Champion. Eventually, though, word reached them that two members of the original Dragons Ardent had survived the Foresworn's attack and in fact joined the very Warband that had destroyed their Chapter. After learning of this, the Refounded Dragons Ardent's Chapter Master ordered a group of the Chapter's forces to hunt down the Traitors and bring back their heads to him. They would learn one was Captain Kurrinon and it would be Marhen who tracked the Traitor down, as the Foresworn were invading an Imperial world. After catching Kurrinon by himself, Marhen struck and disarmed the Traitor before knocking him down. The Champion then told the former Captain what had occurred after he left Nautilos and the subsequent rebirth of the Dragons Ardent. Afterwards, Marhen tried to convince Kurrinon to repent his Heresy by giving the name of the other traitorous Dragons Ardent member. Kurrion refused, however, and instead told the Champion he was an Eater of Worlds. This led an exasperated Marhen to execute the former Captain and then take his head before beginning to look for the other Traitor. Of course Marhen did not know that the other Traitor was the long dead Tanikhor, who in his delusions Kurrinon had believed was still alive.[1]

Notes

It is not clear in the story, if Marhen is a Chapter or Company Champion.[1]
