Categorization dispute

So it seems there is now an edit dispute where a user wants to separate the imperial codex lists here into different imperial and space marine factions. I feel it’s arbitrary and needlessly complicated where he seems to think it’s good because the GW website does it for online ordering. In any regard rather than just reverting the changes again I think we’ll leave it to the regular contributors to decide which format we’ll use. Are the imperial codices categorized as Imperial, or separated into Imperial and Space Marine Harriticus (talk) 01:10, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

I don't see any reason to change the system we're already using on this page myself. I know why GW does it, and there's absolutely no reason why we should follow suit. -Hashimashadoo (talk) 01:20, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
I agree. I imagine that if GW continues on the prodigious proliferation of codices as it has for the past few editions, that it might be worth breaking the page in two with a "Latest 3 or 4 editions" and "legacy editions" page. However, as it stands, the page is clean and easy to use. No need to obfuscate and add complexity. -EumenesofCardia (talk) 02:16, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
This is a lore website first and foremost, so while I sort of understand the impulse to align its presentation of the setting with GWs marketing, on a fundamental level, those within the Imperium consider them Imperial. And even for a hypothetical uninitiated person who comes here and gets confused why they can't find the "space marines faction", I think it's better in the long run that they stay as part of the Imperial category so that theoretical new person doesn't feel like there is a conflicting account as to whether Space Marines are part of the Imperial superfaction or not. -Spleenstealer (talk) 03:14, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
One idea for separation would be with Space Marines as a sub category of Armies of the Imperium. I don't care either way; I just wanted to introduce a possible third option. AndrewTJ31 (talk) 03:49, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Well thank you all for your input, with multiple "yes" to changing and 0 negatives, and Seig having multiple days to respond but not, I will go ahead with the change. I am also going to re-split up the codex supplements from standard codices, as they are not the same thing (a codex supplement requires a codex to use and is not a full independent army book). Space Marines are one of the (many) subdivisions of the Imperium and as such should remain under Imperial Armies. --Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 06:58, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
I am however not sure about splitting up Codices and supplements. Especially as essentially many books sold as Codices in the past were only usable with the race's/faction's base codex. Better to rename it to "Codices and Codex supplements" or sth along the lines.--Inquisitor S., Großmeister des Ordo Lexicanum (talk) 11:22, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
