Tanthius (Primaris Captain)
Tanthius is the Primaris Captain of the Flesh Tearers Chapter's 4th Company.[1a]
Biography
He is a veteran of the Indomitus Crusade and was among the Blood Angels Primaris Greyshields that were sent to replenish the Flesh Tearers' ranks, after the Devastation of Baal. However, while they were welcomed into the Chapter, the Primaris faced harsh remarks and judgement from high ranking Firstborn Flesh Tearers like High Chaplain Appollus, Chapter Champion Harahel, and even at times from their Chapter Master Gabriel Seth as well. This was due to their connection to the hated Lord Commander Guilliman and because the Firstborn viewed the Primaris as newborns, who were not true born sons of the Chapter's founder Amit. Despite this attitude, though, Seth made full use of the Primaris' strength, as the Flesh Tearers took part in the Blood Angels' Angel's Halo campaign.[1a]
Sometime later, however, Tanthius and his Company were chosen by Chapter Master Seth to return to the Flesh Tearers' Homeworld Cretacia. At that point, due to the Warp, it had been twenty years since the Chapter had departed their world, to take part in the Devastation of Baal. They had not received any contact from Cretacia during that time and while a detachment of Flesh Tearers had been left behind to defend it, Seth had decided to find out its fate. Tanthius, however, objected to leaving the Angel's Halo campaign before it was done and tried to convince the Chapter Master that Cretacia was likely fine. In his view, the world would have called out for aid if it was in danger and his Company should continue to fight beside the rest of the Chapter. High Chaplain Appollus took issue with Tanthius's refusal to follow orders and the two nearly came to blows, before Seth had the Chapter Champion Harahel break them apart. The Chapter Master then reaffirmed his orders and charged Tanthius with both securing their Homeworld and also the relics that were stored there.[1a]
Tanthius was ultimately unable to return to Cretacia, being killed by a Genestealer Cult Clamavus aboard the Lunar Class Cruiser Herald of Virtue close to the Corythos System. Dumah was forced to lead the rest of the expedition himself.[1b]
