Techsorcists are a class of Tech-priest within the Adeptus Mechanicus that seek to analyse and cleanse corrupted Machine spirits.[1a]

Background

A Techsorcist

The ranks of these Tech-priests are unusual as they tend to be capable of intuitive thinking, speculation and improvisation, unlike their more orthodox brethren. Techsorcists are famous for their lateral and unorthodox processes which they employ when stricter logic and standard procedures fail. Their talents allow them to operate as a standard Tech-priest but a Techsorcist holds a deeper understanding on how Chaos has the power to mutate and adapt technology. Such traits prove to be a valuable tool for Inquisitors due to their skillset in allowing them to better understand a weakness in the enemy and means that they are often employed as specialists when heretical technology is encountered.[1a]

Becoming a Techsorcist is a simple affair for members of the Mechanicus. First, a petition of transfer must be filed with their superiors, countersigned by the Inquisitor whom they are assigned to. Then, a special mechadendrite is installed that includes hexagrammic data-gates. Finally, the potential is given three hours to access selected records regarding corrupted machine spirits, then three more hours to complete a 7,000-question test. Assuming he passes, the Tech-Priest is now officially recognized as a Techsorcist and is given clearance to request additional texts from the Ordo Malleus.[1b] [1a]

History

The origins of the order of Techsorcists came at the hands of Magos Eremor following the reappearance of the Space Hulk Fatum Posterus from the Warp in the latter half of M36. Their talent to combat Chaos mutated machines meant that these specialist Techsorcists have been at the fore front of any encounters involving heretical technology. Since that time, certain Forge Worlds tend to cultivate groups of Tech-Priests that show an interest in the art of a Techsorcist. Their success has led to increased demands in the Calixis Sector for these Daemon-hunting Tech-priests. This has led to a popular joke within the Ordo Calixis that state that the four Ordos of the Inquisition included the Adeptus Mechanicus. Such a reputation is one that the Mechanicus is eager to cultivate as it helps ensure their representatives be the first to encounter any strange discoveries of a technological nature that are found during an investigation.[1a]

Nearly every Inquisitor in the Ordo Malleus in the Calixis Sector has access to either a single or several trained Techsorcists. In addition, worlds such as the tidally locked Barsapine have over a dozen highly trained Techsorcists that go through the logs and remains of several devices that are of a dubious nature. In addition, the Ecclesiarchy maintains a close watch on the research of such Tech-priests following the Macharian Incident. Furthermore, the investigation of the devices found there have led to many Inquisitors asking for the Tech-priests in their retinue to be trained in the arts of the Techsorcists.[1a]
