The Citadel of Titan
On Saturn's moon of Titan, nestled in the shadow of Mount Anarch, the Fortress Monastery of the Grey Knights juts from the ice sheets and oceans of liquid methane like a jagged black spire.[1]
Overview
A dark-grey basalt edifice[2b], long has this fortress stood. Its dusty, echoing halls are hung with battle honours stretching back almost ten thousand years, though few outside the Chapter would recognize the names of the conflicts inscribed in the faded gold lettering. This mighty structure, designed to accommodate over a thousand Space Marines and all their weapons of war, stands largely silent and empty. The daemonic threat can strike anywhere across the galaxy and, in opposing that threat, most of the Grey Knights are scattered throughout the stars. Only in the Chamber of Trials, where the unceasing work of recruitment and training is carried out, does clamour reign. Elsewhere, the Grey Knights go about their duties in silent meditation, their thoughts bent upon their unending mission.[1]
The Citadel is lightly manned by Human scribes, Servitors, mind-wiped servants, and a small amount of Grey Knights whose duties are so vital as to keep them from the battlefield. While it is sparsely populated, it is crowded with arcane secrets and supernatural artifacts. Such is the expanse of some areas of the Citadel is that not even the Grand Masters of the Grey Knights know the extent of the tunnels beneath Mt. Anarch. There are rumours abound that an Eldar Webway Gate lurks in these forgotten regions, its straining wards barely hold back some primordial evil of unknown origin. What is certain however is that something lurks beneath Titan, enough to make the entire Mountain shudder until the Purifiers are called down into the depths. These tremors have grown more frequently since the formation of the Great Rift.[6]
The defenses of the Citadel are formidable, possessing an array of gun towers, battlements, and sub-fortresses that scatter the surface around the structure.[2b] At least one Grey Knights Grand Master is present at the Citadel at all times in order to oversee its operations.[4] This is most normally the Grand Master of the 6th Brotherhood, who has the title of High Seneschal of the Citadel of Titan.[5]
