"The Empty Place" is a short story written by Graham McNeill and published in The Successors: A Space Marine Anthology.

Story Description[1]

Uniquely resistant against the predations of Chaos thanks to a ritual that sees their recruits possessed, then purged, none have gone as far as the Exorcists in their wars against the Daemon. Now, in the wake of the Cicatrix Maledictum, these Sons of Dorn stand to hold the denizens of the Warp at bay.

Synopsis

Merrin Dragomir, a Primaris Space Marine, is captured by Chaos forces. His captors are excited to use him as a daemonhost, having never captured a Primaris before. They stab him with a daemon weapon called the 'Reaper of Ash', whose resident daemon transfers its essence into Dragomir's body. However, Dragomir is of the Exorcists Chapter, and his body is consecrated to be fatal to daemons. The daemon attempting to possess him is destroyed, and Dragomir escapes back to his brethren.[1]
