Ulfar (Lone Wolf)
Ulfar is a member of the Space Wolves Chapter. His pack - the Baleful Howl - was sent to the Koronus Expanse to quell a rise in Xenos and Chaos attacks at the behest of Lord Inquisitor Xavier Calcazar.[2a]
Biography
Pre-Astartes
He was once a seafarer on Fenris and would go onto the Worldsea and slay Krakens and Sea Drakes. When the Season of Fire would come, his ship would dock on Asaheim and battle for his clan's right to inhabit that land. He once dreamed of becoming a Skjald, but after a great battle with Arnoolf Bloody Axe, the Chooser of the Valiant deemed him worthy of becoming an Astartes.[2b]
He spent years in training before passing the Gate of Morkai and into the valley of dreams. Afterwards, the Rune Priests found him without Corruption and he drank of the Cup of Wulfen and the Canis Helix transformed him. It cost him dearly, but he was able to recover from the bloodlust caused by the darkness of Wulfen and set out for The Fang.[2b]
As a Neophyte he had to undergo a hunt. His was to face off with a Doppelgrendel where they fought for 5 days and nights. It was clever and would change its guise, but Ulfar defeated it and gouged its eye. The creature cursed him that he would never find an honourable death. When he returned, the Rune Priests imbued him with the remaining Gene-Seed and other organs.[2b]
Astartes
A marking on his armour of two crossed bones symbolizes a Mark of Endurance he earned when he sustained a serious injury from an Aeldari chieftain. The Wolf Priest said he would not survive, but after two years of delirium, he recovered. Later he hunted a blackmaned wolf and killed it with his bare hands, earning the rank of Wolf Guard. He wears the wolf fur on his shoulders. A claw-mark on his armour was made by Jarl Ragnar when Ulfar beheaded the Archdespot of Tyranica II. He was blinded during the battle and hunted the sorcerer down by scent alone. He was also granted the accolade "Terminator" for other glorious victories.[2b]
His ambitions of becoming a Skjald had him remember the great exploits of his brothers, and they would fighter harder, knowing their deeds would be recorded. This earned him the moniker Thunderlung for his voice would know no fatigue whether fighting of feasting and could recite sagas or battle cries for hours. He became good friends with his former enemy Arnoolf Bloody Axe and they joined the Space Wolves at the same time. Skyaddi Twice-Thinker was a Rune Priest, with thoughts enough for Arnoolf and Ulfar both. He taught Ulfar to compose verses.[2b]
Koronus Expanse
His 3-man squad was ambushed by Drukhari where he and his pack-brothers Arnoolf and Skyaddi were captured. They were taken to Commorragh to be tortured at the hands of the Drukhari Tervantias the Archmachinator. While Ulfar survived, Skyaddi was turned into an abomination and Arnoolf was tortured to death, leaving him as a Lone Wolf. [2b]
