Vaingloria's industrial sprawls contained fragments of the powerful weapon known as the Key. This led them to be among the first locations to be invaded by the Black Legion's Balefleets in M42.[1] There, the Daemon Prince Ughalax, the Soul Eater, tore his first Key‑fragment — a winged blade‑hilt of ancient make, set in black stone — from the governor's private gallery. By the campaign’s end, every city of the planet was burned and every defender lay dead.[2]
