Valorem Gadriel[2e] is the Ancient of the Ultramarines Chapter's 2nd Company under the reinstated command of Demetrian Titus. Before that, he served as a Sergeant in command of a squad of his own.[1][2a]
History
Inducted into the Ultramarines after making a pilgrimage to their fortress of Castra Tanagra on his home planet of Talassar, Gadriel's unrelenting will quickly caught the attention of Captain Sevastus Acheran who invited him the illustrious 2nd Company, where he swiftly made the rank of Sergeant.[2e]
Gadriel, alongside his squadmate Chairon, were the Ultramarines placed under the command of the newly returned Demetrian Titus by Captain Sevastus Acheran.[2a] Gadriel was obedient but distrustful of Titus due to his background as a Deathwatch Blackshield and seeming connection to Project Aurora and the Inquisition.[2b] These suspicions come to a head while battling the Thousand Sons on Avarax after an Astropath accuses Titus of being a heretic who plans to kill Marneus Calgar. Gadriel attempts to kill Titus to save Calgar and stop the Chaos plot, but thanks to Chairon killing the Astropath it is revealed that the Psyker had in fact been possessed by the Sorcerer Imurah.[2c]
After witnessing his manipulation with Imurah, Gadriel takes an apologetic tone with Titus, which the Lieutenant dismisses as he says his suspicions were reasonable. Together with Titus and Chairon, the trio are able to defeat Imurah and his allied Lord of Change.[2d]
Gadriel later joined Titus' Command squad within the 2nd Company as a Company Ancient.[4] His elevation came at the personal recommendation of Titus following the 2nd Company's defence of Hive Mordica during the Fourth Tyrannic War. During that battle, Gadriel's impassioned oratory skills and combat prowess kept the thin Imperial Guard defensive line from collapsing at the hands of the Tyranids. Within Titus' command squad, he has been given the immense honour of bearing the 2nd Company's Standard.[6a]
Gadriel subsequently accompanied Titus during the Ultramarian Reclamation.[6a] During the battle on Novamagnor he was badly wounded by a Skorpekh Necron but was saved by Titus.[6b]
