Vance Stubbs
General Vance Stubbs is the commander of the Imperial Guard forces stationed in the Kaurava system.[1]
History
Stubbs had barely taken command when a Warp storm opened on Kaurava IV, wiping out the 253rd Regiment and 254th Conservator Regiments.[2] The sudden arrival of a large force of Alpha Legion Chaos Space Marines caught much of the 252nd Regiment unprepared, and they suffered heavy losses, leaving Stubbs with barely a quarter of the troops originally stationed in the system.[1][2]
Hoping to reclaim the Kaurava system for the Imperium, General Stubbs thrust the 252nd Conservator Regiment into the conflict; but this goal was complicated by the arrival of the Blood Ravens Space Marines and Sisters of Battle. Because the Warp storm had erupted under the watch of the Imperial Guard, the newly arrived Blood Ravens and the Order of the Sacred Rose suspected them of causing it. But Stubbs refused to bow down or submit to Inquisitorial re-conditioning, and was forced to wage war on the other Imperial factions.[1][1a]
Outcome of the Kauravan conflict
If the Imperial Guard is defeated in their stronghold at Dussala Precinct on Kaurava I, General Vance Stubbs escapes on a Valkyrie as his bodyguards are cut down, remarking that "Though my army lies in ruins today, I have not yet done fighting, and I will remember who my enemies are."[3]
If the Blood Ravens are the victor, any surviving guardsmen are treated as comrades-in-arms and given safe return to Segmentum Command, where only a few are likely to survive Inquisitional debriefing. The factories and munitions are then used by the Blood Ravens, who proceed in the fight for the system.[4]
If the Imperial Guard is victorious over all the other factions, General Stubbs and his men are declared heroes by the people of the Kaurava system. The system begins thriving again thanks to vast rebuilding, mining and terraforming projects. The numerous military academies that are built there turn out superior guardsmen who are second in quality only to the Kasrkin of Cadia. Only Kaurava III is left largely barren, due to having been the planet where the Necrons had risen. General Stubbs's ability to organise and reform the long neglected Kauravan Guard does not go unnoticed by Segmentum Command, and his career could not fail to carry him above and beyond the position of Governor-General of a small star system.[5]
As the canon outcome of the game sees the Orks under Gorgutz 'Ead 'Unter victorious over all other factions, it can be assumed General Stubbs escaped, vowing vengeance on Gorgutz.[6]
Equipment
Stubbs' standard armaments are a pair of Power Claws and a wrist mounted Bolter. The Power Claws can be upgraded to a pair of master-crafted Power Claws and the bolter can be replaced with a Storm Bolter. To maximize lethality, the master-crafted lightning claws can be upgraded to a pair of Battle Claws and then he can use a Plasma Pistol along with his Storm Bolter. He also has access to numerous battlefield enhancements such as targeting optics, bionics, carapace armour and carapace pauldrons. Stubbs also receives some prestigious Imperial Guard Honours, such as the Macharian Cross and an Ibram's Vestment which allows him to call upon a Kasrkin bodyguard as part of his Command squadron. Stubbs also has an ornate laspistol, strapped on a holster on his left hip but he only uses it in a killing blow against a defeated enemy.[7]
