Void Whale
Void Whales, also known as Space Titans,[4] are gargantuan warp-spawned entities nearly twelve thousand miles long which swim across the blackness of space, sometimes also navigating the unnatural tides of the Warp.[1]
Overview
Void Whales are large enough to maintain ecosystems of parasitic creatures including the bipedal piscene Remora and the wormlike Cruevar.[1] Void Whales corpses are valued by the Leagues of Votann as mining sites, and can maintain multi-year digs.[3a] There are many things that can be created or refined from the raw materials of a dead void whale, some of which being fuel or construction material.[3c] The meat of a void whale is inedible, as far as most sapient species of the galaxy are concerned.[3a]
Ork fleets are known to hunt groups of these "fishies", as they call them.[4] Although the radiation-riven innards are inedible, even to Orks, Freebooterz may seek to "scrobble" their guts as bait for even larger creatures.[4]
Tainted Void Whale
Void Whales that have become corrupted by the Warp are known as Tainted Void Whales.[5b]
Notable Examples
- The Farmarket, a marketplace of exchange from many Xenos species, was maintained by the Trans-Hyperian Alliance above the dig-site of a Void Whale corpse.[3a] The Void Whale corpse upon which the Farmarket was situated was plagued by parasites known as Cruevar, which would occasionally emerge and destabilize the structure before a Kin force could remove them.[3b]
- In 877.M41, a hideously mutated Void Whale emerged from the Warp Gate of Sloth and was destroyed by a boarding party of Space Wolves led by Engir Krakendoom before it could devour the astral stronghold of Perillia. Battling their way through the frond-forests and gill-chasms of bipedal vampiric Remora, Engir and his Wolves planted thermal charges deep within the creature's vital organs and escaped before it exploded. The Perillian Gas Belt was born from its remains.[1]
- In M42, a large number of Tainted Void Whales appeared in a sector[5b] being fought over by the Prophet and an Indomitus Crusade Fleet.[5a] The creatures had emerged from a hole in the Warp that was created by Chaos Sorcerers, and posed such a threat that they were immediately targeted and destroyed by the Crusade Fleet.[5b]
