Vostroyan 22nd
The Vostroyan 22nd is a Vostroyan Firstborn Astra Militarum Armoured Regiment, that contains a single Hussar Rough Rider squadron.[1]
History
The Regiment was among the Imperial forces sent to defend Kurkaris after it was invaded by Orks. By the time the Vostroyan 22nd arrived, however, the Xenos had been driven into the dense terrain of the Ice World's equatorial forests. This prevented armoured units from pursuing the scattered bands of Orks and the campaign on Kurkaris entered into a bitter hit and run war. In order to finally purge the world of the Xenos, the Vostroyan 22nd created makeshift Hussar squadrons of Rough Riders, with the aid of Kurkaris' PDF militia cavalry. Now equipped with armoured horses, hunting lances and flamers, these former tank crew Guardsmen then zealously hunted down the Orks. While there are no horses on the Regiment's Homeworld, Vostroya, the 22nd's Hussar squadrons were successful in destroying the Xenos, though less than a quarter of the Guardsmen survived to see Kurkaris' purged of the Orks. Those that did, however, formed a unique bond and the Vostroyan 22nd honoured their sacrifice by allowing the remaining Hussars to keep their horses. While this single Hussar squadron was initially formed as a temporary unit, it still continues to serve the Regiment to this day.[1]
