The War Court was an Imperial organisation that organised Terra's defense, during the Horus Heresy.[1a]

History

It was initially led by the Imperial Fists Primarch Dorn and its members were primarily located within the Grand Borealis of the Imperial Palace's Bhab Bastion, when the Heresy's Siege of Terra began. However all this changed as the invasion neared its end. Dorn's presence would be lost, after he left to personally take part in the Imperial Palace's defense, after naming Archamus II as his proxy. The Master of the Imperial Fists' Huscarls would then take command in Dorn's stead, until the Grand Borealis was in danger of being invaded by the Warmaster's Traitor forces.[1a]

An order to evacuate to the Sanctum Imperialis' was given, but the War Court continued to operate even as the Grand Borealis' walls were breached. But because of this, few of its senior members were able to escape before the Traitors overwhelmed the Borealis' defenders and killed any Imperial they could find within it.[1b] The Sanctum Imperialis' doors were sealed soon afterwards and the surviving War Court members who escaped within it, made the Tower of Hegemon their new base of operations.[1c] Archamus II would not be among them, though, as he had remained outside of its walls and the War Court bestowed upon him the title of Lord Militant Terra.[1d] He would lead the Imperial forces trapped outside of the Sanctum's walls, while Mistress Tactician Sandrine Icaro commanded the War Court.[1e] However because of this, the War Court was unable to directly aid Archamus[2a] and would instead focus on directing the Sanctum's defense as the Traitors' attacked it.[2b]
