World Spirit
| This article is about the Eldar spirit; for the honoured spirits of Necromundan Ash Waste Nomads, see World Spirits. |
The World Spirit, also referred to as the World Serpent[3], is the crystaline conductor of psychic power that serves as the ultimate refuge for the souls of the Eldar who die on an Exodite World, a sentient entity made similar to the Infinity Circuits of Craftworlds.[1] When an eldar dies in the presense of the World Spirit[4], or when (as is Exodite funerary custom) a soul gem is collected and broken upon the altar of the World Spirit, that soul becomes one with the World Spirit of that planet,[1] usherd into the collective by the World Singer.[3]
With a heart comprised of Wraithbone and Dragon bone,[5] the world spirit spans the planet's surface in a matrix of self-propagating[4] psychoactive crystal grids forming stone menhirs, obelisks, and concentric stone circles through which any Exodite is able to commune with the world spirit, though this is normally done by Farseers[2]. The World Spirit's network connects through a secluded part of the Webway[1], its most potent link being the Royal Circle[1] which houses the World Shrine comprised of the sanctuary of Isha[3], and attendant Worldsinger[3].
The World Spirit is capable of affecting the planet itself by causing earthquakes and droughts as well as manifesting the dangerous Dragon Aspect[3] to wipe the world clean of life and begin anew.[4]
