Wraithblade
Wraithblades, or Klaivaulch, are the most feared Eldar Wraithguards, Wraith Constructs outfitted with Ghostswords, Ghostaxes, and Forceshields.[1]
Overview
Tradition holds that these vengeful constructs are kept separate from other ghost warriors so that their immortal anger does not taint those nearby who might one day attain peace. Few Eldar will speak the true name of Wraithblades, Klaivaulch, for fear of inciting the wrath of Khaine. When needed, the Wraithblades will be awakened by the most gifted Spiritseers, their Spirit Stones burning hot upon activation. Once kindled, the wrath that animates their Wraithbone becomes an unstoppable fury that is only quenched by enemy blood.[1] Whether this anger comes from within the Spirit Stones that animate the Wraithblade or the angered Spirit Stones of their weapons they carry is not fully understood.[2]
Differentiating themselves from their Wraithguard cousins, Wraithblades are equipped for vicious melee, wielding two great Ghostswords, Ghostaxes[1] – both weapons embedded with spirit stones containing souls so malevolent they could never be joined with the Infinity Circuit or wielded by the living.[2] With Ghostaxes, the Wraithblades also carry Forceshields which deflect errant enemy fire and strikes so they focus on their target. Additional sensor vanes are attached to the helms of Wraithblades, which keep in check the most dangerous urges of the Wraithblade.[2]
For a long time, Craftworld Biel-Tan rallied against the use of Wraithblades, decrying those craftworlds who would make such constructs, but now even they have been left little choice after suffering the ever-increasing casualties of the 41st Millennium.[4]
