History
During the 2nd siege of the world in the Great Crusade, the early IXth Legion's 14th Company was deployed under Rogal Dorn. During the campaign they consumed prisoners of war in front of the enemy walls, inspiring terror and fear. They were formally censured after supposedly consuming wounded members of the allied Malagant Rifles as they retreated.[3]
During the Horus Heresy, Yarant III became the site of a battle between the Space Wolves and a coalition of traitor forces led by Abaddon. The Space Wolves were routed and Leman Russ badly injured, though in the end they were saved by the Raven Guard led by Corax.[2] Later during the Scouring, Traitor forces fled to Yarant after the Second Battle of Vanaheim.[5]
The Eldar fought Chaos Space Marines within the Yarant System, with Farseers identifying a site within the Timan valley's Sekarra jungles and swamps on Yarant IV as the headquarters of the Death Guard Chaos resistance.[4] The Eldar showed a diversionary force while Windriders and six Revenant Titans moved in secret toward the valley headquarters - overruning the Plague Marines before they had chance to form an effective defence.[4] Within the week, Chaos forces left Yarant IV.[4]
Trivia
In earlier editions, it was stated that the Space Wolves had been routed by only the Alpha Legion at Yarant.
