The Shield Chapters of Ultramar are 10[1] Ultramarine-descended Chapters, that Lord Commander Guilliman has charged with permanently defending the Realm of Ultramar. In order to perform their duties, each Shield Chapter has command of a world within Ultramar to use as their base of operations.[2]

In chapter 1 of the Dark Imperium: Godblight (Novel), Tetrarch Felix states that his Chosen of Vespator Honor Guard each come from one of the ten Shield Chapters[1]. In chapter 5 of the Belisarius Cawl: The Great Work (Novel), Felix lists the names of each of his Chosen and what Chapter they came from[3]. In chapter 20 of the Dark Imperium (Novel) Second Edition, Lord Commander Guilliman lists a few of the worlds, the Shield Chapters will use as their bases.[2]
