Bellathonis is a master Haemonculus who has studied the ancient arts of Vlokarion and in the Black Descent[3a], and is among the most capable Haemonculi at resurrecting individuals who have long since died.

History

Bellathonis worked with Nyos Yllithian of the Kabal of the White Flames to resurrect El'uriaq in order to usurp Asdrubael Vect as supreme overlord of Commorragh. It was Bellathonis who conducted the resurrection, using the tortured screams of a pure Exodite Worldsinger to draw his lingering spirit from Shaa-Dom. However the increasingly unstable El'Uriaq would destroy the body of Bellathonis for a small slight, forcing the Master Haemonculus to spend weeks in a regeneration chamber attended by his Wracks. When Bellathonis emerged partially healed, it was to warn Yllithian he speculated that when El'Uriaq was reborn, a Daemon came back with him and had since assumed control over the Tyrant's body.[1b] Bellathonis then worked with Yllithian to use the Glass Plague to defeat El'Uriaq.[1c]

For his crimes of resurrecting El'Uriaq and causing a devastating Dysjunction in the process, rival Haemonculi sent Engines of Pain to kill Bellathonis. Before being attacked, he was able to use a device to transfer his mind into the body of the Archon Kharbyr.[2a] Escaping with his trusty Wrack Xagor into Aelindrach, the duo avoided native Mandrakes and sought the protection of the Mandrake king Xhakoruakh.[3b] Brought before Xhakoruakh, Bellathonis avoided execution by offering his services to build the Mandrake king a Grotesque.[3c]

While creating the grotesques, Bellathonis discovered the biological materials to build them were infected with a daemonic plague spread by the Ur-Ghuls. He then learned that the plague is a weapon meant to be unleashed on Commorragh by Xhakoruakh.[3d] After his brother Azoruakh was assassinated by Kheradruakh, Xhakoruakh declared himself as the sole ruler of Aelindrach. Bellathonis was able to manipulate Xhakoruakh into invading the labyrinth-fortress the Coven of the Black Descent to eliminate his enemies in Commorragh.[3e] Upon the invasion, Bellathonis was reunited with Yllithian, who was also simultaneously being manipulated into invading the lair of the Black Descent. Bellathonis, Xhakoruakh, Yllithian, and the freed Archon Xelian agreed to ally against Vect, but the Mandrake king was then killed by Kheradruakh.[3f]

Still allied with Yllithian, Bellathonis and the Mandrakes launched a rebellion against Vect. However they were defeated thanks to Vect manipulating the entire situation and unleashing the power of the captive suns of Commorragh. As they were about to be executed, they were rescue by Motley, which amused Vect. surprisingly Vect spared both Yllithian and Bellathonis, who was named the Supreme Overlord's new personal Haemonculus.[3g]
