The following paragraphs contain spoilers for: Da Big Dakka (Novel)

Dhaemira Thraex is a Trueborn Drukhari Archon,[1] who wants to rule their capital Commorragh.[2]

Master of the Kabal of the Hollow Heart[3a], she will stop at nothing to prove she deserves to do so, even if she has to bring about the city's destruction. However the Archon's plans to first take over Port Tavarr[3b] came under threat in M42, after the Tekwaaagh! Boss Ufthak Blackhawk led an invasion of Commorragh.[1]

Biography

She has a younger brother, Archon Dhalgar Thraex[3a] who commanded the Shard of the Cruellest Light - the largest faction within the Kabal, save for her own court.[3h]

Dhaemira annihilated the Kabal of Twelve Wounds, allies of the Cult of the Silver Shards.[3a]

She met with Zothar Oridraed, Lord of the Kabal of the Wounding Wind with her seneschal, Enzale Ozreih inviting Oridraed to carry out a realspace raid on the Maiden World of Shau-Har and attack a force of Arakhia.[3b] She next met with Maculatix, Master Haemonculi of the Red Harvest seeking an alliance to take over Port Tavrr after the fall of Lord Fahrrul, former ruler of the sub-realm and lieutenant to Asdrubael Vect. As they discussed terms, word came to Maculatix that Arakhia had somehow entered the city, apparently following the Wounded Wind home. Normally this would have been impossible, but Dhaemira had ensured that the gateway would remain open to allow the Orks entry - a fact she did not of course disclose to her potential ally.[3c]

Dhaemira ordered that Sabregate, the district where the Arakhia had emerged was sealed off - both to demonstrate her decisiveness and as the area had no value to her or Maculatix. She then ordered Iilonith Zesk, her Dracon and Master of arms to kill any of the Wounded Wind that had survived. Arriving in Sabregate she was disturbed to find that one of the survivors had been an Incubi - she instructed that no evidence of its death at her warriors hands remain.[3d]

Others began to arrive, notably Master Archon Cistrial Virn of the Kabal of the Falling Night who she met aboard his Tantalus. However, as she began to discuss the destruction of the invaders, under her leadership, Ork weapon fire began to be noted, outside the apparently sealed district.[3d] Her plan to deal with the Arakhia as a way to establish her leadership had hit its first obstacle - the Arakhia themselves.[3e]

How the enemy had escaped Sabregate was demonstrated when a group of Orks teleported in above them and most fell on to the floating vehicles of the Drukhari. In the ensuing melee, Cistrial was cutting his way through the Arakhia when his blade was caught by a Power Klaw and shattered, but rather than leaving him to be dispatched she decide to intervene and killed his foe. She then put her blade to his throat but he did not flinch, beg or even blink - not giving up his power which she found exciting.[3e]

The two Archons discussed the horrific truth that the Arakhia were teleporting, something that could threaten the entire district and more if Daemons were able to use the breaches to gain entry. They also knew that this could draw the attention of Lord Vect and consequently the threat had to be eliminated as quickly as possible.[3e] She led the attack on her Venom even though she had not had time to seek the aid of the local Wych cults, her forces moving through all three portals to Sabregate.[3f]

Seeking their leader, her venom and other lead craft crashed into a force field bubble, shattering them - she leapt clear and was confronted by the hulking mass of their chieftain - heavily muscled and armoured, half again as tall as she was. She shot it with her Blast Pistol but it made little impression before she was swarmed by a mob of his minions who she slaughtered, the last of whom was clubbed aside by the Arakhia commander. Despite her initial confidence, she found that she could not breech its guard with her Venom Blade and was all too aware that a single hit from its weapon would at least incapacitate her. However, the rest of her forces arrived and attacked, a Ravager firing all three Disintegrators in to the chieftains back - causing it to bellow in rage and turn to face the attacker. Enraged at its resilience, she attacked but was in turn assaulted by its pet Squig, Princess.[3g]

The Warboss turned back to attack her again and she would have been killed if Cistrial had not grabbed her hand and yanked her aboard his speeding craft. Their grip lingered a moment longer than required and she was surprised that he had saved her - a rival. He quickly confirmed that he needed her influence and she ordered all remaining craft to focus on the enemy teleportation device which exploded before she called for a retreat.[3g]

She next dispatched Kherazul of Aelindrach and his Mandrakes to kill the Arakhia chieftain but he failed, barely surviving the encounter. Her brother joined her, having finally recovered from his wounds inflicted upon him previously by the same ork and she informed him that the other local Kabals had acknowledged her authority to deal with the invaders. Together with Virn and Maculatix, the siblings traveled to the arena of the Cult of the Deathly Sorrow to gain their aid.[3h]

They met with Grand Succubus Xurzuli Mindrex who was disinterested at first until Dhaemira told her that the enemy leader had slain an entire pack of Mandrakes by itself. Seeing the warlord as an potentially invigorating foe to face, Xurzuli agreed to capture him - allowing the Arakhia army to fall apart with infighting in his absence. However, as they agreed, the enemy once more breached the portal and entered Port Tavarr itself.[3i]

As they enjoyed the hospitality of the arena, Xuruzli informed them that they had attacked the Arakhia and captured their leader.[3j] Dhaemira asked to see the captive, leaving Cistrial to keep an eye on the others although she had noticed that he had been giving her lingering looks despite their apparently and surprisingly firm alliance. Confronting the beast in its cell, she learned it had a name - Ufthak Blackhawk in Low Gothic.[3k]

She informed Ufthak that it would placed into the arena and faced with the most dangerous of beasts - to which he replied, sounds good to me. She was stunned to find that the Arakhia that although they actually understood the concept of mortality, they simply did not care! Ufthak, enhanced now in body and mind suggested that if released it could lead its army away since in truth he had business elsewhere - becoming da real boss. She did not agree but promised it that Ufthak would merely spend the rest of its life in a cell, withering away to which the Arakhia responded not only was she stupid but he would get out and make her suffer.[3l]

For the first time, Dhaemira attended the games in the arena of the Deathly Sorrow as a guest of the Grand Succubus, enjoying the luxury of the Grand Box. Again she noted Cistrial staring at her, both of them unusually embarrassed despite their experience in the micro-languages of drukhari interactions. To the mild irritation of Dhaemira, Xuruzli released Ufthak into the arena, matching him against Marqus Dire, a Space Marine who he quickly defeated and hurled into the crowd where he began killing the spectators![3m]

Although Cistrial and Dhaemira noted the sounds of Arakhia gunfire approaching the arena but Xuruzli was unconcerned stating that they merely came to their deaths. The Grand Succubus then declared that the five of them would face the chieftain in the arena - to which they agreed.[3m] As they approached their target however, Ufthak teleported![3n]

The five caught up with the Ork in the centre of his army as it rampaged through the arena and Ufthak was happy to fight them all.[3o] Although four of them were excellent fighters, they were not at all co-ordinated with each other and often had to pull blows or avoid each other, helping Ufthak to hold his own. During the melee, Dhaemira saved Cistrial from a massive hammer strike and stated (to the surprise of both of them) that it was because your face is aesthetically pleasing, and it would be inconsiderate of you to get it destroyed.[3p]

Shortly after, he returned the favour and saved her from a counter-strike, suggesting that he would try and trick her into complementing her again. She retorted that she did not mistakes and asked if he doubted himself but he snapped back that it was understandable if she was attracted to him. She agreed the latter and they returned to the fight, their combination enabling her to finally score a hit on his flesh with her venom blade. As Macultix moved to take advantage however, Ufthak slammed his hammer through his body, shattering his spine before flattening his skull.[3p]

The huge Ork then dropped to one knee and as Xurzuli, Dhaemira and Cistrial surged forward to take advantage, Dhalgar stabbed Cistrial from behind, calling on his sister to join his power play. Dhaemira realised that she actually admired the wounded Archon more than just finding him aesthetically pleasing and so she attacked her brother. A duel began between them as Xurzuli screamed at them to focus on the real enemy before a pack of Clawed Fiends, one ridden by a Gretchin joined the fight![3p]

Dhaemira, Xurzuli and Ufthak each cut down a Clawed Fiend but this gave the Ork an opportunity to hit the Grand Succubus which carved her into two pieces. At the same time Cistrial stabbed her brother with his spear and she plunged her venom blade into her sibling before shouting at Ufthak that should take the opportunity to leave - he replied Workin' on it but did not renew his attack.[3p]

Cistrial then pointed out that her ship was descending in a rather clumsy manner, Ufthak confirming that he had sent Da Boffin to take control over it! However, the Ork confirmed he needed a drukhari to open a portal away from Commorragh - she offered him her brother, swiftly giving Dhalgar the antidote to the poison of her sword. Ufthak agreed and teleported away, followed by most of his army, leaving only a large mob of grots.[3p]

Dhaemira tended Cistrial's wound, suggesting that they should rule Port Tavarr, together - if he wanted such a partnership - to which he agreed.[3p]

Home Spire

She has her own private anti-grav shafts and staircases guarded by a variety of codes that used either her blood, breath, eye-scan or palm print to access.[3h]

  • Chambers: Hidden and buried in the depths it has sympathy windows that enable her to see her domain.[3h]
  • Dungeons and torture chambers: Below her own chambers.[3h]
  • Decoy Chambers: Located above the throne room, they give enemies a target.[3h]
  • Throne room: A massive space that spreads across the entire width of the spire near its apex. There are statues of her ancestors, the Dark Muses and hiding places for her own assassins.[3h]
  • Warriors: The lower levels have armouries, barracks, mess halls and training rooms.[3h]

Appearance & Personality

Dhaemira has a fine boned face and uses kohl made from the ashes of defeated enemies to highlight her eyes.[3c]

Whilst the common belief in Commorragh was that power could not be given, only taken, Dhaemira disagreed, considering that power came from the spirit and that mastery over the spirit of another was true victory and power.[3d]

Vessels

Her personal flagship was the Heart's End on which was mounted Voidbreaker,[3p] the largest Dark Lance that had ever been created by a drukhari.[3e][3p]
