History

Chaplain Dumah[1m]
Main article: Battle of Cretacia

In M42, Dumah was summoned to the Battle Barge Victus, where he met with Chapter Master Gabriel Seth. Seth explained that the Flesh Tearers' homeworld of Cretacia had been cut off from contact with the Chapter for 20 years, and due to their losses in the Devastation of Baal the Chapter was in need of new recruits and supplies. Thus Dumah and Captain Tanthius were assigned to cross the Great Rift and reestablish contact with Cretacia.[1a]

Aboard the strike cruiser Cretacian Justice (with Tanthius commanding the Lunar Class Cruiser Herald of Virtue), Dumah and the rest of his group of the 4th Company arrive near the Corythos System and encounter Genestealer Cultists on Polaris void space. The attack was led by Apothecary Barachiel, who managed to clear the station of Genestealer Cultists. However, Barachiel learned that Tanthius was killed aboard the Herald of Virtue by a Clamavus.[1a] Dumah led his own boarding action of the Herald of Virtue, encountering more Genestealers aboard the vessel and killing a Genestealer Magus.[1b]

After the battle, Dumah revealed to Barachiel that he intended to form a new Death Company of the Flesh Tearers with the Brother Isaiah, who had recently succumbed to the Black Rage, at its core alongside the crazed Reiver Tamael.[1c] As the Cretacian Justice drew closer to their homeworld, the crew began to go mad and mutinied from infiltration by Genestealer Cultists, forcing Dumah and the rest of the Flesh Tearers to suppress it violently.[1c]

After finally arriving in the Corythos System, the Flesh Tearers received no word from Cretacia and the 4th Company landed to investigate. Dumah prioritised claiming the Fortress-Monastery and relics, while Barachiel wished to investigate the fate of the greater system and the possibility for the cure for the Black Rage on their homeworld. Venerable Dreadnought Daeron agreed with Dumah, and they led a dangerous expedition through Cretacia's deadly wilderness to the Fortress-Monastery as Barachiel was left aboard the Cretacian Justice to perform genetic purity tests amongst the crew to look for any further Genestealers.[1d]

Dumah and the 4th eventually reached a tribal camp, finding evidence of a massacre and learning that the female children were taken hostage by a nearby group of raiders. After rescuing the children and slaughtering the raiders, Dumah killed a monstrous beast to prove his worth to the tribal chieftain, but more importantly found evidence of Chaos Space Marine activity on the world.[1e] As the 4th investigated further, they discovered a Khornate Heretic Astartes who stated the Blood God covets and learned that the Chaos Space Marine warband known as the Disciples of Rage under a Chaos Lord dubbed only the First Disciple had taken over the Fortress-Monastery.[1f]

Dumah met back up with Barachiel and made a plan to reclaim the Fortress-Monastery. Despite initial disagreements and arguments over whether the Black Rage belongs in the Chapter or not, Barachiel agreed to follow Dumah's plan for a frontal assault supported by orbital bombardment. The Flesh Tearers were aided by the tribes of Cretacia, which were eager to expel the Chaos invaders.[1f] As the Cretacian Justice launched an orbital bombardment and Attack Craft were launched to destroy the fortress's defensive guns, Dumah ordered a frontal assault despite Barachiel's warning. The first assault failed and the Flesh Tearers and their allies suffered heavy losses. Faced with annihilation, Dumah agreed to follow Barachiel's plan of a subterranean infiltration to disable the fortress's power generator.[1g]

Infiltrating through a hidden corridor used by Aspirants, the Flesh Tearers facd only token resistance and were able to quickly reach the power generator chamber. After destroying the reactor with explosive charges, the fortress's Void Shield fell and the Cretacian Justice was able to inflict massive damage on the enemy defensive positions. Dumah used the opportunity to lead a fresh frontal assault, and though the fighting was bloody the Flesh Tearers and tribesmen were victorious. A berserk Dumah then encountered the First Disciple, clad in the Terminator Armour of Nassir Amit, and the two engaged in a vicious fight as Barachiel reached the Black Tower and discoverd some still-living captive Death Company warriors.[1h] Dumah released his new Death Company as Barachiel discovered the bodies of Aspirants horrifically mutated from a secret attempt to cure the Black Rage.[1i]

The Death Company was eventually able to turn the tide of the battle under Dumah's command, finally breaking through into the fortress defences as the First Disciple fell back. The Flesh Tearers discovered that the Disciples of Rage were planning to open a Warp portal in the Fortress Reliquary, and they rushed to stop Cretacia becoming a Daemon World as the Death Company sacrificed itself to buy time.[1j] In the reliquary, Dumah was able to kill the First Disciple and recover Nassit Amit's armour while stopping the opening of the Warp Portal.[1k]

After the battle, Cretacia was secured but what little population there was had been decimated while the Fortress-Monastery was heavily damaged. It is discovered that Barachiel since accepted the Black Rage to the point of receiving his own vision of Sanguinius battling Horus, succumbing to the curse of their Chapter in turn.[1l]
