Emberg-Aegnir Bloc
The Emberg-Aegnir Bloc was a former League of the Leagues of Votann.[1]
History
The Emberg-Aegnir Bloc was a prosperous Votann League at the eastern fringes of their civilisation.[3] The Bloc consisted of only a handful of Kindred, whose doom came when the Bloc's territory was attacked by a tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan.[1] In truth, the League had been warned of the attack by their Ancestor Core centuries prior, which had one of its Forges spring to life and create a new suit of Bastium armour with an alien serpentine crest engraved upon it. The Ancestor Core never elaborated on its meaning to the Grimnyr.[3]
Years later, when the Hive Fleet's Bio-ships later attacked the Hold that held the Bloc's Votann, the League's Kindred held their ground to defend the sacred relic. High Kahl Ugnÿr was chosen to lead the defence and donned the special Bastium armour. His first act was to cease the endless skirmishing with the outer elements and Vanguard Organisms and return those under his command to the Emberg Kindred to make their stand. As the battles raged for weeks, Ugnÿr fought alongside his Einhyr Hearthguard, which included Buri Aegnirssen.[3] Meanwhile, the heavily outnumbered Bloc worked to protect their dead from the Hive Fleet, by placing them inside their Ancestor Core. This caused the bodies to be broken down and the dead's memories were collected by the Ancestor Core. The accumulated memories of the countless millions of fallen, blighted by pain and sorrow, overwhelmed the Core and eventually drove it mad.[1]
Soon, it became clear that the Kin could not stand before the endless Tyranid numbers. They fell back to their Fane-construct of their primary Holdworld and resolved to fight to the last. One by one, the Kin were slain until it was just Ugnÿr and Buri fighting side by side. At that moment a monstrous Tyranid creature entered the chamber, and in the ensuing combat Ugnÿr was impaled while Buri was swallowed hole, though he later miraculously survived and swore revenge against the Tyranids.[3]
In the aftermath of the League's fall, their mad Ancestor Core was completely ignored by the Hive Fleet and when the Hold's biomatter was consumed, the Tyranids simply departed from the world. The Bloc's Votann was then left alone with the absorbed accumulated pain and desolation of those who had fought, died and been returned to their Ancestors through the use of the relic. This drove the Votann's machine mind insane and the sorrowful tale of the Mad Core is still told amongst the surviving Leagues. All know not to sail by the wavering beacon of the Core's tortured mind.[1]
The last known survivor of the Emberg-Aegnir Bloc is Buri Aegnirssen, also known as the Thrice-Devoured. Tormented by his Kin's passing, he now fights alongside other Leagues to pursue vengeance against the Tyranids.[2]
