Einhyr Hearthguard
Einhyr Hearthguard are the elite Hearthguard of the Leagues of Votann. In battle they act as shock troops, bodyguards, special forces, and ship boarders.[3]

Overview
Selected from the most accomplished Hearthkyn and Theyns in a Hold, the Einhyr Hearthguard have many roles – from bodyguards to first-striking. Each Hearthguard has proved themselves over many years on the frontlines, ascending through the staunch meritocracy that defines the Leagues. Like Hearthkyn, Hearthguard are dependable, but their experience and technology take their kind's natural durability to a whole new level.[1]
In battle, Hearthguard are typically organised into Hearthbands and are only deployed when swift conquest of a vital asset is deemed necessary. Einhyr often sport a wide swathe of mechanical, biological, and neurochemical augmentations that allow them to better perform in battle.[7a]
The Squad leader's rank is Hesyr.[1]
Armour
Einhyr Hearthguard are clad in Exo-Armour made from ultra-dense materials attached to a complex servo-assisted frame, allowing the wearer to shrug off anti-tank weaponry while retaining full freedom of movement and even auto-stabilising their aim while they return fire.[3] Exo-Armour sports tactical displays and counteragent AI systems to augment their HunTR interface.[7a] The armour can also be equipped with Teleportation Crests or Weavefield Crests.[3]
Weapons
Each Hearthguard is equipped with a Volkanite Disintegrator or EtaCarn Plasma Gun, a shoulder-mounted grenade launcher, and a Concussion Gauntlet or Plasma Blade Gauntlet for melee combat, although the squad's Hesyr may prefer a Concussion Hammer in melee.[1]
Einhyr Champion
Einhyr Champions are noble warriors in the Einhyr Hearthguard who have risen up its ranks to become Champions.[5] They are selected by Kahls and Hearthspakes with commanding vital missions and also serve as the guards of Votannic Councils if necessary. Many Einhyr Champions will go on to rise to become a Kahl themselves.[7a]
These close-quarters combat warriors are clad in Exo-Armour fitted with mass drivers, as well as a Weavefield Crest and RAM Shield. In battle, the Champions wield a Darkstar Axe or Mass Hammer as well as a RAM Shield-mounted Autoch-Pattern Combi-Bolter.[3] Their wargear allows them to function as living battering rams and pulverise anything that gets in their way.[5]

- The name Einhyr could be inspired by Einherjar, literally "army of one", "those who fight alone". Einherjar in Norse mythology are those warriors who have died in battle and have been brought to Valhalla by valkyries.
