Empire of Iron
The Empire of Iron was a series of worlds that were ruled by the Iron Warriors Legion during the Horus Heresy.[1]
History
In the early Horus Heresy, the Iron Warriors were tasked by Horus with securing important Fortress Worlds and centers of production, particularily in the Segmentum Solar. As a result, the Iron Warriors carved out a disparate domain of strongholds, ruling these planets as brutal overlords. This also made the Iron Warriors' domains the main targets of the Shattered Legions and other loyalist guerrillas.[5]
After their Primarch, Perturabo, withdrew them from the Siege of Terra, the Iron Warriors retreated to the Empire of Iron and waited for the forces of the Imperium to come to them.[2] However, according to the Primarch Guilliman, the Iron Warriors' poor leadership caused the Empire of Iron's reign to be short-lived, as it began to collapse before the Horus Heresy even ended.[1] Regardless, the remnants of the Iron Warriors' empire persisted for a substantial time during the Great Scouring, when their main bastions were gradually destroyed or reconquered by the Imperium.[3][4]
After the slaughter of the Iron Cage, Perturabo ascended to Daemonhood and returned to Olympia to formally declare his "Iron Empire". Yet the Iron Warriors' capital world was subsequently besieged by the Imperium,[6] ending in its destruction.[4]
