Ereden Adorjin[1b] was a Daemonhunter of the Ordo Malleus active in early M41. It is believed by the Inquisition that if her deeds were widely known, she would have been hailed as an Imperial Saint.[1a]

Biography

Adorjin was born a psyker, and early in her life she was consigned to the Black Ships. However, unbeknownst to all aboard, the young Adorjin had been possessed by a daemon known as Nekaybraianon. The daemon was brought onto the ship in her body and it was able to commit multiple atrocities on the psykers aboard the vessel on its way to Terra. However, with the help of Inquisitor Mardaine, Adorjin was able to achieve the remarkable: she mustered the will required to unbind the daemon from her and cast it out.[1a]

With Mardaine as her mentor, Adorjin became an acolyte in service to the Ordo Malleus, eventually becoming an Inquisitor herself. Rather than sticking to a particular sector or region, Adorjin was a wandering Inquisitor. She started her career in Segmentum Solar and fought through into the Segmentum Pacificus.[1a]

At the start of the Ninth Black Crusade of Abaddon the Despoiler, Adorjin was selected as the next wielder of the legendary holy blade Luminous Reproach.[1a][Conflicting sources]

Her hunt for Nekaybraianon lasted over two hundred years. On her journeys across the Imperium she was responsible for banishing dozens of powerful Daemons and eradicating uncounted cults. She was also known to have fought alongside the legendary Grey Knights on so many occasions that an entire squadron of those warriors was assigned to aid her in her battles on a semi-permanent basis.[1a] She also possessed a copy of the Liber Daemonicum, presented to her by Justicar Volze.[1b]

Eventually in 338.M41 she was able to track Nekaybraianon down; the daemon had hoped to evade the Inquisitor's pursuit by possessing another psyker bound for the Black Ships, but Adorjin had seen through the daemon's plan by consulting the Emperor's Tarot. Using pentagrammic wards to seal Nekaybraianon on the ship, she confronted and battled the daemon and destroyed it with the Luminous Reproach.[1a] However, the psychic backlash of the monster's death killed everyone on board the ship and cast it into the Warp, eventually becoming the core of a space hulk designated the Twilight.[1a][1c][4]

The last surviving data-file pertaining to Adorjin is a copy of a communique, believed to have been intended for one of her acolytes, stored within an Inquisitorial archive. The message - her last words, for all intents and purposes - was "I've found him at last. His reckoning is long overdue. How fitting that it should end near exactly where it began." As the intended recipient was killed in a hive riot before they could elaborate on who or what Adorjin was referring to, the subject of the message remains a mystery, and there is no mention of her in any Imperial archives afterwards.[1a]

Conflicting sources

  • The source claims that the Ninth Black Crusade began in 139.M41.[1a] However, other sources give differing start dates for the Crusade, including 165.M37[2] and 573.M38.[3] It is possible that the writers meant the Twelfth Black Crusade (which did take place in 139.M41[3]), rather than the Ninth.
