History
It was built into the hull of an ancient void craft partially submerged in a lake of slime. The town clings to the ship's structure, with inhabitants living in the gaps between hull plating, cargo holds, and the engine mount. The settlement’s most prominent residents occupy the rusting vox tower, which provides a clear view of any approaching threats.[1a]
Overview
Heretic’s Hole is a haven for outlaws and those cast out from places like Dust Falls or Rust Town, and is ruled by Ursan Graves, an outlaw psyker.[1a]
Recently, crime lord Balthazar Van Zep has shown interest in Heretic’s Hole, seeking its access to Hive Bottom to bypass the monopoly on spider eyes and deep sump fungi held by Sump City. Ursan Graves has successfully countered Balthazar’s attempts, sending his agents back in pieces. However, the situation has escalated, with Balthazar now sending the infamous killer Lothar Hex to deal with Graves.[1a]
Ursan Graves' policy of welcoming outlaws to Heretic’s Hole has led to significant growth in his motley collection of wyrds but also attracted undesirable elements, notably Cawdor gangs. Recently, a more insidious threat has emerged: the Cult of the True Resurrection, a group of outlaw Cawdor gangs advocating the death of the Emperor and self-mutilation as devotion.[1a]
Wyrd Haven
The true value of Heretic’s Hole for underhive gangs lies in its large collection of Wyrds which Outlaws come to hire , particularly the Lost Ones, the resident psykers.[1b]
Psychic phenomena are common in Heretic’s Hole. Hive wisps lure gangers to doom or hidden treasures, frost creeps around the void ship chambers, and ancient screens flicker to life with unsettling images. These phenomena often result in 'Heretic’s Luck,' which usually means misfortune, such as malfunctioning weapons or dulled blades.[1b]
A notorious incident involved Venators attempting to execute Joe Twice-Shy; after multiple failed attempts due to inexplicable malfunctions, they abandoned the effort and hired him instead.[1b]
