House Vextrix is a Traitor Knight House.[1]
History
Discovered by Explorator Fleets from mars during the Great Crusade and bloodlessly assimilated into the Imperium, they proved eager students in the way of the Cult Mechanicus. They grew close to the Fabricator-General and Legio Mortis who they served frequently alongside. They often acted as enforcers of Kelbor-Hal's will with a particular focus on the retrieval and protection of lost knowledge. On occasion they even acted as Kelbor-Hal's personal bodyguards. Thus it is of little surprise they aligned with the forces of Horus during the Horus Heresy, their first act to be to adorn their fortress on Daxos Gemini with the corpses of loyal nobles. After this purge they took to the stars in service to the warmaster and took part in the Battle of Beta-Garmon[1] and the Cataclysm of Iron.[3] Since the Horus Heresy they have welcomed the corrupting influence of the Dark Mechanicum and wage campaigns to uncover lost Dark Age of Technology machinery for their new masters.[2]
Today, Vextrix's Knights fight predominantly against forces in support of their Titan allies, such as flanking infantry formations. They also launch counterattacks against enemy tank formations that attempt to ambush the advancing Legio Mortis. They press ahead to secure bridges capable of bearing the Titans' immense weight or to claim storage shrines full of vital supplies. These missions are often extremely dangerous, and House Vextrix has frequently seen heavy losses. None of its Nobles have ever voiced any complaints or hesitation in their duty however, and those that survive are richly rewarded for their devotion.[6]
House Vextrix comprises many branches of nobility, linked by blooda nd shifting levels of subservience. Nobles are typically known only by the name of their lineage and the number that identifies their rank, such as 405th Noble of the Xitran Line (or Xitra CDV) or the 15th Scion of Ykrot Line (or Yrkot XV). This is influenced by the heavy Dark Mechanicus culture throughout the House, which emphasizes cold logic and machine efficiency. The Dark Mechanicum's hand can be felt in many additional ways throughout the House, from Scions being grown in vat-farms to reckless experimentation upon the Nobles and their Knight Suits. Its members present themselves with unquestioning obedience to Hereteks for service regardless of how profane or dangerous, something that has run them afoul of the Legio Mortis in the past.[6]
Within the ranks of the ranks of the House, the more augmented and altered one is, the higher the status. Cabals of Idolators toil in forges and workshops to continually outdo one another in the warp-fused enhancements upon both Knight and pilot. To that end, the House often launches raids throughout the galaxy in search of artifacts from the Dark Age of Technology, be it Adeptus Mechanicus or Xenos in origin.[6]
