Komus the Tyrant Star[5]

Komus, also known as the Tyrant Star or the Hereticus Tenebrae, is a mysterious stellar phenomenon that occurs in the Calixis Sector. A horrific harbinger of ruin and desolation, the spectral sun consumes light, hope and sanity.[1a] Madness, mass deaths, and Warp anomalies follow wherever it appears.[5]

Overview

The appearance of the star and the visions that accompany it are said to herald the doom of humanity. When it arrives, it is accompanied by dark prophecies, maddening visions, and mass panic[1a] that transform human minds and make them ready to wholly embrace darkness.[2] None are able to explain what exactly the star is or why it appears. It may be Eldar, Tyranid, or Chaos in origin[1a], though some scholars have noted the repeated word 'devour' in prophesy. The actual text of the prophecy is locked in the Bastion Serpentis archives, and Lord Inquisitor Zerbe only allows a very favoured persons to read and analyze the complete transcript.[2]

Misery IX

The events of the Tyrant Star's visitation upon the Imperial colony Misery IX were recorded by an Oblationist member of the Ordo Calixis. Said records of this event were based on the first-hand account and surviving vid-feed records of their Reaper cell Agent KXK-99, Nwana Zhankis, during Mission DTT/99W:[4]

The colonists of Misery IX's facility hub terminus who had not fled to the shadows were looking up to the sky with their hands covering their ears. After the unknown events of the Star's visitation, they were sent into some form of atavistic rage, ripping each other apart with their bare hands. Tech-Priests who were attempting to take readings from a vast array of instruments pointed to the sky prior to the visitation events were now all dead, a number of them having suffered cranial implosion at the moment of the visitation.[4]

Inquisitor Halk of the Ordo Calixis's Tenebrae Collegium had travelled to Misery IX prior to the star's visitation. He stood amongst the colonists who were clasping their ears and looking up at the sky, but the Inquisitor was nowhere to be seen in the gory aftermath, nor was there any evidence of his fate.[4]
