History

At some point prior to 241.M41 Messina suffered from the predations of a cult. The cultists were known to remove their dead victims' eyes, due to their belief that the eyes were the windows of the soul.[4]

Inquisitor Eisenhorn had his Distaff organisation headquartered on Messina. However, circa 396.M41, they were essentially wiped out in an attack by Vessorine Janissaries[2a] mercenary bands[2c], hired by the Heretic Pontius Glaw.[2b]

Since the opening of the Great Rift and the invasion of the greater Thracian Primaris System, it has become a Fortress World.[7a] Despite repeated Chaos attacks including Chaos Knights of House Mykorphas and the Death Guard it has held in part thanks to the Knights of House Krast.[7b]

Conflicting sources

In Codex: Eye of Terror (3rd Edition)[1] and the 2003 Eye of Terror Worldwide Campaign[6], Messina is stated to lie in the Thracian Primaris System.[1] However, in the map of the Scarus Sector given in Ravenor (Novel), Messina is labelled distinctly from, and quite a long way away from, Thracian Primaris[3], which is the main world of the Thracian Primaris System.[1]
